Reports surfaced early this week that Arsene Wenger is interested in signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge for £30million.
Arsenal have been relatively impotent during the final leg of the Premier League campaign with strikers Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck combining to score only five goals in 2016.
Sturridge meanwhile has been in tremendous form for Jurgen Klopp, having scored five goals in his past seven Premier League appearances.
The 26-year-old has been plagued with injuries since the start of the season however is now ready to once again lead the line for the Reds.
Sturridge has voiced displeasure in regards to his lack of playing time and hinted at some friction between himself and Jurgen Klopp.
“I am someone who wants to play every minute of every match so maybe when I’m not starting, it’s hard to take.”
The story surfaced early this week and incumbent striker Olivier Giroud responded superbly by starring in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw away to Manchester City.
While the result was ideal for Arsenal who still sit two points behind North London rivals Tottenham, Giroud scored the first goal for the Gunners with a well-timed header off a corner in the 10′ minute.
He followed it up with a crafty backheel to set up Alexis Sanchez’ 13th goal for the season in the 68th minute.
Many have marginalised Giroud for his lack of clinical finishing and overall goal-scoring prowess.
The goal against City was Giroud’s first in 16 games, having not scored since Arsenal’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool back in January.
